It's rather haunting...

I did a search and couldn't come up with anything for you in that time frame !!!!

Good luck in your search, I'll be checking back to see if you found the right performer.

Funny how the new...was most likely a re-hash of the old.

not sure of the genre, I can't really slot it it to any as it's sort of a story set to music, kinda like the story about the camp cook serving moose terd pie. Its about a bunch of young people (teens?) racing their cars in a figure eight...thanks again to all those who've taken the time to try and help me.

My best bet is Johnny Bond. It's country, but male and could sound like Dean Martin. The album is called the famoust hot rodders I know and it has two songs with good titles. I can't find lyrics or a place to hear it, but hope this helps. The two songs are titled: "Great Figure Eight Race" and "Around and around the figure eight".

It sure sounded a lot like johnny bonds singing. My daughter says I got the story line wrong....it's about a guy (the singer of the song) who wanders across the figure eight track and meets one of the managers for a driver thats sick. the manager ask him if he want to fill in for his sick driver and the guy agrees, then the story goes on about him racing around figure eights, and at the end it goes on about the car falling apart and the driver eating dirt on the last lap around.
