Hi Everyone,

I was hoping I could get some suggestions for an uplifting or inspirational song or a song of achievement. It needs to be a popular song.

Here is why I'm asking for help. My little daughter was borning with Cerebral Palsy. A few years ago, we were trying to raise money for an Easter Seals event and I made a short video showing her skating. The background music playing was Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway (was my daughter's favorite song at the time). It was just for fun, but when we sent it around, everyone loved it, mainly because of some of the song lyrics.

"I spread my wings and I learn how to fly,
I'll do what it takes 'til I touch the sky."

Very appropriate words (if you saw the video). The next year, I put way more effort in the video and used the song R. Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly.

"I believe I can fly,
I believe I can touch the sky."

This one was even better (you can see it on YouTube, just search for "Easter Seals Skate") and my daughter was actually the top personal fundraiser for the event.

I have been trying to think of another song similar to these two, but cannot come up with anything. The words to the song are important to get the message across.

Please let me know if any of you can think of a good popular song. You help is greatly appreciated.

K-Ci & JoJo All My Life is what comes to mind when I think "inspiration", here's a sample of the lyrics:

You're All That I Ever Know,
When You Smile All My Face Always Seems To Glow,
You Turn My Life Around,
You Pick Me Up When I Was Down,
You're All That I Ever Know,
When You Smile My Face Glow
You Pick Me Up When I Was Down
Say...You're All That I Ever Know
When You Smile My Face Glows
You Pick Me Up When I Was Down
And I Hope That You
Feel The Same Way Too
Yes I Pray That You Do Love Me Too

For me, the way the song is performed sends it over the top - very poignant.

The only other song that is coming to mind is Jesus Jones' Right Here Right Now - here's a sample of the lyrics:

I was alive and I waited waited
I was alive and I waited for this
Right here, right now, there is no other place I want to be
Right here, right now, watching the world wake up from history

Here is the link to the video on YouTube so you can see what I've done and what I am looking for.

YouTube - I Believe I Can Fly

I don't have the Breakaway video posted there though, but it was much simpler.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Josh Groban - You Raise Me Up. That's the first song that came to mind although I don't know the lyrics by heart so I'm not sure how applicable they'd be. I'll try to think of some more.

'Gold' by Spandau Ballet is a good one. The chorus goes:

Gold (gold)
Always believe in your soul.
You've got the power to know
you're indestructible.
Always believe in 'cause you are
gold (gold.)
Glad that you're bound to return
there's something I could have learned.
You're indestructible, always believe in.

How about Eurythmics' There Must Be An Angel? Here's a sampling of the lyrics:

No-one on earth could feel like this.
I’m thrown and overblown with bliss.
There must be an angel
Playing with my heart.
And when I think that I’m alone
It seems there’s more of us at home.
It’s a multitude of angels
And they’re playing with my heart.
