Back in May 1992 when I was a big jazz fan I was going to a Memorial Day Party and on New York's CD101.9 ("Smooth jazz" station) was a fine fine version of One Note Samba. It was very catchy and memorable. A great repeating riff yiou never get tired of
About 12 years later someone on a music chat board was convinced he had the right version, taped it and sent it to me but it wasn't the one.
I know there must be hundreds of versions of One Note Samba
Any idea which version I heard in 1992, maybe it was a group that was popular then?

Not sure that's really enough to go on. Was the singer male or female? Or was it an instrumental rendition? Any idea on the instruments used in it?
Here's Wikipedia's page on the song. They don't list anything for 1992 though.
Doing a quick look they list Charlie Byrd and the Modern Jazz Quartet as having CDs with it around 1991. The one for Charlie Byrd allows you a brief test listen.
Gilberto as in hilgi's link and the woman's voice sounded like Astrud's but I think it was in English and she kept saying "One Note Samba" repeatedly I don't even know the normal lyrics to the tune.
the tune is automatically catchy no matter who is doing the song but believe me, this version i heard in 1992 was really stick to the ears catchy
