I was at a Yette concert at Atlanta's Brandyhouse a few years ago. Butch's nephew, Valor Trucks was the lead guitarist for the band. Halfway through the show, Butch Trucks walked out from backstage. I was in my early twenties, as was most of the crowd, and I was one of the only people to recognize him. I felt bad to approach him, but did anyway.
Me: "Hey Butch! Just wanted to tell you I was raised on your music!"
He looked me up and down before responding....
Butch Trucks: " You ain't old enough to be raised on **** yet kid."
(He was smiling and very friendly as he said this)
He was wearing some pretty ratty jeans, an old button down shirt, and some shoes that looked like they cost about $500.
He then invited me to sit with him at his table, and he bought me a Coors.
One of my only brushes with any of the members of the band. I let him know that my wife and I had followed The Allmans for two years in our VW Westie right after we were married(from about 19 to about 21 years old), and had seen them 23 times in that span. Wish I could do it again.
Heck with it, I'm going to throw this very controversial commercial in here too! That'll get their panties in a wad! Word on the net is this is Warren. It sure as hell sounds like it too!
I am a huge ABB fan and have been since the early 70s. I have seen Gregg as a solo act and The Bros as a group once each but can't wait to see them again.I live in the boonies.
Derek Trucks is Butch's nephew. He was a child prodigy and has played with the band for quite awhile now. I love Warren Haynes and everything he has done for the ABB over the last 20 years.Without him they would have just fallen by the wayside.
One of my friends has maintained a friendship with Gregg that goes back to Gregg post divorce from Cher. They get together a couple times a year. When they met he had no idea who Gregg was.
I was thrilled when Gregg got his new liver and a new lease on life.I hear he is working on an autobiography that I am sure will be fascinating. The Allman Bros story is a sad stoty.
It is indeed a paradox, but the Blues have the power to lift your spirits when you're....well, blue. I guess it's just hearing someone else in emotional pain, that makes you realize you're not alone and others have been there and that, yes, you'll get through it.
Once, a long time ago, after a bad break-up with my longtime partner, I heard this song on the radio and it made things a bit better. For that, I am forever grateful to these guys.
