i have been searching youtube for Ray Parker Junior's "Let Me Go"(I think it was from 1982 and probably on "The Other Woman" lp) but i can't seem to find it, perhaps because it's a little on the bland side and not as well known as the other hits

but if anyone can find it or knows the song, pls give your opinion to this question:

does it sound like Ray followed The Harold Melvin and The Bluenotes "If You Don't Know Me By Now"? listen closely, you may know why I am asking

thanks in advance

Well, he did get sued by Huey Lewis and the News because the tune of "Ghostbusters" was supposedly a ripoff of "I Want a New Drug."

Default yes i remember

Let Me Go however is far less popular than the Ghostbusters song so i would think many would not notice a similarity

Default Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio

Hmm, I have about 20 of his songs in my collection, but I do not have that one...

Now I'm curious!

Default man this is aggravating

I can't find it on you tube. I have it on Ray Parkers greatest hits dated from 1993.

the song sounds like a colder, more sterile "If You Don't Know Me By Now", like a love crooners 80's version of 70's Teddy Pendergrass. It features that soulful vocal, a gradual buildup and that half sung-half spoken style until the main chorus. I sswear Ray made this tune with The Blue Notes song in mind. you gotta hear it some way and tell me what you think

i think it was on the "Other Woman" album in 1982

probably one of the weaker tracks on greatest hits when you first hear it but as time goes on it grows on you

I found an MP3 of it on here, my software says it's a safe page...

Ray Parker Jr. - Let Me Go.mp3 - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

...and yes, I see what you mean, there are similarities to "If you don't know me by now"

Default thanks for finding that

it's so 1982, which was a terrible year for me, but i still like the song, it has that cloudy day aura about it

any other posters feel free to comment

Yeah, Ray seemed to fall into pseudo-covers of others hits, a lttle too much. But I did like his work,
writing and playing all the instruments, ala Zapp/Rodger, Rick James and Prince.

I always liked his music, except for his simple-minded lyrics. But it does sound like he followed Harold Melvin here. As I listen to some of his other songs, I hear similarities to others too.

Default the synthed beginning

of "Jack and Jill" indeed sounds like Stevie Wonder from his 1972-1977 period

just comparing "I Want A New Drug" to Ghostbusters, it's the main choruses that sound similar, but the other parts don't sound alike)

and thanks for the opinions everyone
