I already posted my favorites as Yes, Genesis, and ELP. I just wanted to add for those of you that open minded and music lovers - I'd like to invite you to pick up an album or 2 from these great artists. They are pioneers of the genré of music labled, Progressive.

According to DigitalDreamDoor.com the criteria for a band to be in the catagory of Progressive Rock: "These bands were chosen for their complex, dynamic, & multi-dimensional playing. For their original use of multi-movement compositions involving theme, structure and scope in addition to their impact on this vital genre of music."

Even in the shortes of pieces, there is SO much to listen to. Musicians that are truely MASTERS of their craft. Believe me, if you truely ARE a music lover, when you take a listen to this music, not only will you not be disappointed, you'll be hooked!

I put Beatles, Stones, and had Zeppelin as my Other, but don't know that I wouldn't have had 2 others in place of the first two given the choice. Grateful Dead, Rush probably.

Hey Chris - I appreciated your post and have been an Emerson Lake and Palmer fan for ages. Saw them live and don't remember any disappointments. Trilogy and Pictures At An Exhibition are two of my favorites. Have you ever gotten into Todd Rundgren / Utopia?

Now System of a Down. There's a band right there.
There we are. I knew they were hiding somewhere! System of a Down is my favorite band, and Toxicity is my favorite album (although Tool and Lateralus are close).

Why don't you start a thread about more modern hard rock bands, there's plenty of us on here that would like that conversation.
I'm not much into Korn, but Evanescence is awesome. And it really is rare to see people in their 40s enjoy a lot of today's music and, even rarer so, to go to their concerts. And I see that they were asking more about classic rock. There's some great stuff there, too!

Don't know if I'll start a thread. Don't come here too often (hence why it took so long to respond).

I only just really discovered my passion for music in the last year or so. I wish I was in a band, but I don't know what I could offer them. I've decided that I love drums, and wish I would've discovered this earlier so I would've been able to learn them. It's much more difficult once you get out of high school (though I'm not quite out yet) and have a job. You know...life.
