Continuing today's Country Gold theme, here's a singer/songwriter who had one number one hit for himself, but he hit it huge when he wrote "Mammas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" and had it recorded by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Huge hit for them.

We call him "The Singin' Sheriff". He was versatile, but was best known for his honky-tonk style in many of his songs, not to mention being the ultimate showman.
