Of course one of my favourite lines will come from Duran Duran...
From 'The Chauffeur'
What glass splinters lie so deep in your mind?
I love that line because it is so simple yet so descriptive of the woman he is describing. He is saying that there is some past emotional injury that isn't even a scar yet but a constantly open and irritated wound. As though a splinter of glass were wedged in her mind slicing through her thoughts and emotions.
Several of some of the best ever written are in this classic.
"Meet the new boss...same as the old boss!"
"Pick up my guitar and play...just like yesterday..and I get on my knees and pray............WE DON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN!!!" Just to name a few.
"So you packed your world up inside a canvas sack, set off down the highway with your rings and Kerouac, someone said they saw you in Nepal a long time back" - Al Stewart, Modern Times
"I will kiss you in four places, as I go running along your street"
H&C
"I will squeeze the life right out of you/you will make me laugh and make me cry/and we will never forget it/ you will make me call your name, and I will shout it to the blue summer sky"
"and we may never meet again, so spread your wings and lets get started"

That album, particularly that song, was entirely based on the book "Animal Farm" by George Orwell.
The theme to Animal Farm is based on Stalin and a new regime. However, people were
under the impression a new regime would change everything. However, once the new people took over they turned right around and did the same thing - hence "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

I always liked it when I got a new boss. Yes, it's true!
"Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way."
- Pink Floyd
"You're SO PRETTY when you're unfaithful to me!!!"
- The Pixies
