My next three posts will be tributes to artists who have passed away in this past week. The first artist was actually a lyricist. Hal David, who, for many years, collaborated with composer Burt Bacharach for a 17-year period from the '50s into the '70s, died last weekend at age 91. Some of his songs include the following by this '60s-era pop artist. Another Hal David tribute will follow...
Hal David and Burt Bacharach also helped bring this New Jersey-reared pop artist onto the scene in 1962. Here, now, are their works. Rest in peace, Hal. Thanks for so many great songs and fabulous memories.
The other artist whom we've lost is Joe South. Joe was a successful songwriter who had many incredible contributions to the country and pop music fields. His songs include "Rose Garden", "Down In The Boondocks", "Hush", "Games People Play", and "Yo-Yo". His singing career (recording-wise) yielded a scant few hits, but his compositions have been recorded by many artists, including Deep Purple, Lynn Anderson, Billy Joe Royal, Brook Benton, Freddy Weller, and many others. Rest in peace, Joe, and thanks for all of your contributions to American music. He passed away on Wednesday in Buford, Georgia, of heart failure. Joe was 72.
