Without the sad stuff, we'd never appreciate the good stuff. It's always about something that we don't have, and have to work to achieve. Sad songs can be the stuff that fuel our dreams to become reality.

Lately, I have had the strangest feeling
With no vivid reason here to find
Yet the thought of losing you's been hanging
'round my mind

Far more frequently you're wearing perfume
With you say no special place to go
But when I ask will you be coming back soon
You don't know, never know

Well, I'm a man of many wishes
Hope my premonition misses
But what I really feel my eyes won't let me hide
‘Cause they always start to cry
‘Cause this time could mean goodbye

The love was strong
At least in the beginning
Who would've thought
There'd ever be an ending
We had it all
But it's like we've run into a wall

Now we try to talk
But just end up fighting
Try making up
But there's just no denying
Things ain't the same no more
What are we putting ourselves through all this for

You talk and hear me
But you can't communicate
Cause you're not listening
Know these are two different things
Now I see what it means to have been
Blinded by the one you love so deeply
Cause,

The very things that made me love you
Are the things pushing me away now
In tears we stand here
We've nothing left to say

Early one morning while you were asleep
I received a letter, but there was no addressee
So I paid it no mind, in fact, I wanted to send it back
But something that I was feeling said open it
It said "Dear Reader, you're a close friend of mine
And I hope that this letter finds you in time
Cause your love is ending
And my life's just beginning
With a woman that I know you hold dear to you"

It could all be so simple
But you'd rather make it hard
Loving you is like a battle
And we both end up with scars

Tell me who I have to be
To get some reciprocity
Cause no one loves you more than me
And no one ever will

It is just a silly game
That forces you to act this way
Forces you to scream my name
And then pretend that you can't stay

Tell me who I have to be
To get some reciprocity
Cause no one loves you more than me
And no one ever will

No matter how I think we grow
You always seem to let me know
It ain't workin'
It ain't workin'
And when I try to walk away
You'd hurt yourself to make me stay
This is crazy
This is crazy

I keep letting you back in
How can I explain myself
As painful as this thing has been
I just can't be with no one else
See I know what we got to do
You let go and I'll let go too
'Cause no one's hurt me more than you
And no one ever will

Alright. I think this is the saddest song of all time. This song is written a bit like a play...think of it as having "Acts." The song is basically about a woman (Erykah Badu) getting dumped and finding out that her ex has a new girlfriend. "Act" I of the song is very chipper sounding (Denial). Act II switches to a very somber tone (Confusion). Act III is Anger. Act IV is Desperation. Finally, Act V is Acceptance. She basically takes you through a woman's entire grieving process in song form.

Act I (Denial)

My eyes are green
Cause I eat a lot vegetables
It don't have nothing to do with your new friend
My eyes are green
Cause I eat a lot of vegetables
It don't have nothing to do with your new friend

I don't care, I swear
I'm too thru with you, I am
You don't mean nothing, to me
So go ahead and be with your friend

My eyes are green
Cause I eats a lot of vegetables
It don't have nothing to do with your new
friend

Act II (Confusion)

I'm insecure
But I can't help it
My mind says move on
My heart lags behind it

But I don't love you anymore
I'm so insecure
Never knew that love did this

ohh ohh ohhh, ohh ohh ohhh

I can't remenber
The last time I felt this way
about somebody

You've done something to my mind
and I can't control

But I don't love you anymore
Yes I do, I think
Loving you is wrong
du ohh

ohhh ohhh ohhh, ohhh ohhh ohhh

Ohhhhhh, ohhhhh, ohhhhh

Act III (Anger)

Never knew that love could hurt like this
Never thought I would, but I got dissed
Makes me feel so sad and hurt inside
Feel embarrassed so I wanna hide
Silly me I thought your love was true
Changed my name to silly E Badu
Before I heal, it's gonna be a while
I know it's gonna be a while child

badi dadi di di, dadi di di dum dum di di di
I hope is not too late
Too late, too late, too late
feeling insecure
Love has got me sore
I don't want no more
du ohh

Act IV (Desperation)

I'm sorry
I love you
At first it was cool
You told me, you love me too
And then you lost your love
Oh then your love
And then you lost your love
You wanted me to go away, but I can't go

Just make love to me
Just one more time and then you'll see
I can't believe I made a desparate plea
What's with me, me, me
yeeeeh ooh

Don't you wanna be strong with me
You told me we had a family
Wanna run to mama when you're down and low
Then times get tough and there you go
Ohh out the door you wanna run again
Open my arms and you'll come back in
Wanna run cause you say that you were afraid
Now your free...GO

Act V (Acceptance)

Never knew what a friendship was
Never knew how to really love
You can't be what I need you to
And I don't know why I f****d with you

I know our love will never be the same
But I can't stand these growing pains.

Come upstairs and I'll
Show you where all my
Where my demons hide from you
Just look at who I have become
I'm so ashamed you were the one
That made me feel the way I do

You broke me
And taught me
To truly hate myself
Unfold me
And teach me
How to be like somebody else

And I felt strong enough
I was discovered by the love
I had been waiting for so long
You told me none of that was real
I can not hide how low I feel
To know that you were never wrong

I am lost and found
Falling down
My faith, broken down
Broken down
