RIP Hal. Burt Bacharach receives most of the attention for the incredible Bacharach/David collection of songs, but David's lyrics were an essential part of their success.

Agreed. The catalog of material coming from this duo was just incredible! RIP. Mr. David.
It all began with Marty Robbins' "The Story Of My Life" and Perry Como's "Magic Moments", but there were many more to follow. Hal David, along with composer Burt Bacharach, made a lot of magic moments happen for a number of recording artists, including Dionne Warwick, Tom Jones, Herb Alpert, Gene Pitney, Jackie DeShannon, and the list goes on. In addition to Bacharach, Hal also collaborated with other artists in co-writing "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" and "Sea Of Heartbreak". Not only is he in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, would you believe he was also inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame? Hal David sure was. We've lost a giant in the industry, and as his lyrics live on forever in many hit songs, he will truly be missed.
