Born in '80. I haven't liked anything Top 40 since the late 90's.

Something really, really bad happened to mainstream music. From what I've seen, it brainwashes everyone who listens to it into some kind of idiot.
It's pure EVIL and should be avoided at all costs! lol

I know with my generation, top 40 was less relevant already than prior generations because of the music availability on the Internet, but I was still a huge fan from the euro-dance era through early Gaga and many others were as well. Today however, I am starting to feel like there is less and less good stuff in Top 40. There are still some songs I like, but I feel less and less of a connection to the music with each passing year. I'm sorry I just can't relate to Justin Bieber or the watered down electropop that has turned out to be nothing like I thought it would be when the trend started in 2009. Is this a sign I am getting older, or is the music of today really that stale?

Do you know many people over age 25 that jam to today's top 40?
My iPod workout playlist is almost all today's top 40. I'm quite a bit over 25. I love the energy of it. Great workout motivator. Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, 50 Cent, Drake. Love their recent hits.

I was born in 1976. My knowledge of popular forms of music, hip-hop, Top 40 and the like, pretty much ends around 1999. But my knowledge of other forms of music has increased significantly. There is plenty to like about music today-- working some alumni shifts over the winter break at my college radio station turned me on to a couple of good bands. You just to have know where to look.

Most people associate their best years with their high school/college years. My own mother confirmed when you start a family, your knowledge of pop culture nose-dives. She credits my birth for avoiding disco (ha ha). So, it's not surprising when people complain about the quality of current music. I'm sure my folks wondered how many brain cells I killed listening to metal, rap, Brit-pop and grunge from the late '80s and early '90s.

I still like the new rock n roll. Some country. For example, I enjoy Fun. and Luke Brian. Stuff like that.

Pop and hip hop, no thank you. I'd rather eat nails.

I was born in 77.

While I like some newer music, I find myself mostly listening to 90s and 80s music...

I was born in '92 and I even I don't like much of today's mainstream music. Most of the music I like came out in the 80s or 90s. I also like 2000s music up to about '06 or '07 (because, let's face it, early 2000s music wasn't too different from mid-to-late 90s music).
Interestingly, I still listen to a lot of recent music from other countriesthat would be categorised as "pop", but isn't heard music on North American radio.

Oddly enough, my mum, who grew up in the 60s, still listens to some pop music.
