The song reached the number 10 spot in October of that year and was eventually awarded a gold record.

Apparently Wilson had at one time worked at the Drive-In which is where I was soda-jerking that evening. My supervisor, who was also the theater manager, remembered Wilson and just wanted me to meet him. Her name was Mrs. (or Miss?) Clark and she reigned over that drive-in property with a BIG flashlight. I was 15 years old.

J. Frank Wilson was a one-song wonder although the song Last Kiss has been recorded by several artists since including Taylor Swift and Pearl Jam.
I had always heard he wrote that song and the wreck was on Old Union Road which runs through Lufkin and Hudson on Lufkin's west side. Now I wiki it and it says someone else wrote it and the wreck was in Georgia.

Oh, by the way I live about a mile from the site of the Panther Drive In which unbelievably was still there as late as 1981.

1970-71 Bonnie Raitt was the opening act for Chicago at St. Vincent College.

But my favorite, and my memory is squishy on the date, Yes was the opening act, then Humble Pie and Black Sabbath as the lead act at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY. Except for Rick Wakeman, Yes was dressed up in green tights with green pom-poms on their boots and they jumped up and down a lot. The Black Sabbath audience had no idea what to make of them.

Sarah McLachlan, opening act of 3 bands right after her first LP came out. She took the show.

I'm pretty sure it was 1981. I had that ticket stub for years but I bought it in to show it to someone where I used to work and it didn't make it back into the box it was in.

I hope I will be able to find it.
