Anyone else a fan of the old Souther-Hillman-Furay band? I had this album way back when, its great. It is every bit as good as the Eagles stuff from that same time period. It's too bad they didn't have more commercial hits and stayed together.
I was so lucky to see them back in the Seventies, just about the time they were cresting, with their downward spiral a little over the horizon. How sad that they had so much trouble because they made great music though it later became "cool" to attack them and tear them down as if they were a flash-in-the-pan group. I think I still might have all of their albums, alongside artists such as Sugar Loaf, CCR, Guess Who and The Grass Roots.
It's argued that "Hair" was NOT rock, and many are dismissive of the music. Are they crazy?! The music might have been more pop than rock, but it gave us songs such as this, again from Australia's Three Dog Night.
EDIT: I just have to add a wowzer of a number, with one of the great openings of all time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3FwMa4SNLM Eli's Coming by~yes~Three Dog Night!
Check it out: Alice Cooper and Mitch Pileggi (Skinner of "The X-Files") on vocals; Paul Stanley, guitar; Vivian Campbell, guitar; Rudy Sarzo, bass; and Tommy Lee, drums!
