Here's yet another movie song, this from a tragic story of starcrossed lovers portrayed by Natalie Wood and Robert Redford. The girl singing at the beginning and end is Mary Badham, best-known as Scout of "To Kill a Mockingbird".

I DO NOT LIKE the draggy-voiced singer, but I do like the song. How I wish someone else had recorded it because whoever this is is almost unbearable to me: too breathy, too wispy, too barely-on-the-right note. I HATE draggy voices! Too many present-day singers have fallen into this habit. Maybe someone will do a decent cover of it someday.
I have this couple's album, from which this was a hit. They actually wrote it for another artist who (astonishly) turned it down! What was that person thinking?! This is such a wonderful song, and I'm happy that they got to perform it. I don't think they had another success, but this certainly is one to be remembered for.
