It's really weird to me. I just read a thread in which someone mentioned that the only thing they hated about living in Texas again was having to hear country music at many of the gas stations. Like, really? Country music is that horrible that you have to make a random thread about it?

Can anyone give any insight? Again, I understand people who are indifferent to it or just don't like it. It just seems odd to me that so many people purposely go out of their way to mention their dislike for it, like it's the worst genre in the world.
For me it's this...

It seems like everyone everywhere is trying to force it on you. For example, everything that happened on the MTV awards we absolutely had to see Taylor Swift's reaction. Like American Idol? You better like country because those stars are going to be pushed harder than everyone. You literally can't escape it and it isnt even acoustically appealing. That is to say it doesnt "sound" good.

It just seems like so many people are trying to force it down our throats that we rebel against it.

Personally I just dont like the "twang" of it.

I am more surprised by people who don't like metal. I know it's loud and often it isn't as popular (in most cases besides say Nicklebacks or hair metal) but it is one that I hear from a lot of people that they don't like it.

I don't mind and even like certain modern country artists and bands (despite the "grown men crying in their beers because their woman left them" comment I made earlier) but I hate bluegrass, it just sounds like noise to me (and this comes from a metalhead.)

If most country songs were like "Ode to Billie Joe" by Bobbie Gentry, then it would be awesome!

Ya'll can keep bickering at each other all day, but I'm just gonna listen to some country music, no matter where it came from, no matter who sang, no matter the reason it was sung, and I'm still going to enjoy it!~
