For songs you may have dedicated to people in the past, both romantic and otherwise, that are no longer actively involved in your life: do you feel sad/nostalgic, when those songs are played on the air, or when you hear them?

For some of the songs that I have really liked listening to in the past, I find that I can no longer listen to now, because they remind me too strongly of multiple people that I had cared about, either as a friend, etc., who I also feel only ultimately ended up forsaking me Has anyone here ever experienced something similar, and if so, how did you come to be able to listen to the nostalgic song(s) in question again, later on?

Yes. I always think of certain people with certain songs. The first two that come to mind were for relationships:

At 16:

MARVIN GAYE & TAMMI TERRELL "Ain't no Mountain High Enough" - YouTube

At 18:

BERLIN - TAKE MY BREATH AWAY(LIVE 1987) - YouTube

I never hear these songs without thinking of them.

Ex used to sing this to me. Too bad it wasn't true. In all fairness, we were too young.

Not to mention, the "right" one came along and I have been happy ever since.

Make me think of friends who were too young to die.

There was a couple I knew growing up and ended up working with them. They represented to me a fantastic relationship a real couple and best friends. He died after a long illness in the hospital and it really choked me up when I found out. I sent her this song. It made me think of that first moment coming home and walking in the bedroom and knowing he would never lie next to her again. It still brings tears to my eyes thinking of her in that moment.

For Reza, my first and only true love. He made a cynic believe in love at first sight though we were to be parted.

Jim Croce - Time In A Bottle [1973] - YouTube

For Cindy, my first friend at college, who introduced me to this album:

The Who - Tommy (Full Album) - YouTube
We had such plans to travel to Chicago to see The Who perform "Tommy".

For my sister (now three-years gone) who used to laugh throughout this song along with me, of course, when we played it on the jukebox at Pizza Hut in the Seventies. It's so much fun=)!

Focus - Hocus Pocus - YouTube

For my mother, who is THE junk food junkie!

Larry Groce - Junk Food Junkie (1976) - YouTube

Yes, I tend to associate people with certain songs and do pause and think of them if I hear those songs. Sometimes feel sad/nostalgic and sometimes I smile, thinking of the fun times.
