one band that i dont dislike, but never quite got was Stone Temple Pilots. when i was in high school this band was everyones' favorite. i was just like, is their any hook to any of these songs ?

Yes, I can concur with that. Pearl Jam was okay in the beginning and just made fools of themselves from "Corduroy" onwards. While I don't mind "Ten", to this day it is one of the most over-played albums of my life time and I just haven't been able to stomach even the older stuff since the early 90's. Stone Temple Pilots: I always had that same exact mindset: didn't mind them, even own a couple of their albums, but the cult following that echoed the idea that there was no way you could be a music fan and yet disparage STP was peculiar. Really, STP wasn't that good and certainly nothing was noteworthy about their music that transcended the times.

Another great choice I left out. Don't get it. One day out of the blue hops out a Jimi Hendrix look-alike and people worship the ground he walks on. Don't get the aura or where it came from overnight beyond that. And some of his music is just plain awful....especially "I want to fly away"...got that right- makes me want to fly away far from the sick cows in the pasture that resembles the vocals to that severely overplayed and overrated song.

Thumbs down Phooey on these bands!

Call me crazy, but I could just never get into Phil Collins! Our main rock and roll radio station in St. Louis, KSHE-95, started playing all kinds of Phil Collins, Toto and other stuff that sounded like wimp rock to me back in the mid-1980s. Then in the late '80s, MTV's Headbanger's Ball played hair metal bands with the black leather and spandex and all that. Not my cup of tea, either!

Guess my least favorite list would have to be, in addition to the above:

1. Poison
2. Cinderella
3. Whitesnake
4. Motley Crue
5. W.A.S.P.
6. Korn
7. Megadeth (too in-your-face with the politics)
8. Aerosmith (except for "Toys in the Attic"!)
9. Guns 'N Roses. I'm flabbergasted that KSHE 95 has decided to start playing their music again after a major riot in St. Louis mainly involving Axl Rose back in, I think 1990 or thereabouts. Guess you've gotta bury the hatchet at some point.

I know Nirvana has been mentioned a few times. I am re-mentioning it because I think they deserve it. They were groundbreaking back in the day and I loved them. But come on, its 2007, 15 years since Nevermind was released and the bloody radio stations are still playing Smells Like Teen Spirit EVERY DAY!

I have to say that northbayeric's list is pretty good (except for Megadeth )
