An auction at Christie's of rock 'n' roll memorabilia from some of the hottest bands of the 1960s and '70s hauled in big bucks Friday, including $20,000 for a Jimi Hendrix album and more than $4,000 for a Rolling Stones' T-shirt.
A copy of Hendrix's ''Axis: Bold as Love'' album from 1968 _ inscribed ''Thanks for everything'' and accompanied by three color photos of the rock star _ sold for double its pre-sale estimate of $10,000. Three cardboard posters for Hendrix concerts in 1968 and 1969 fetched $10,625, $16,250 and $18,750.
Thanks for that info John. To long time vinyl collectors it isn't a surprise at all. Except for maybe the prices! Christie's does their work well as do another auction outfit-Heritage. At the record meets Hendrix moves with no problem at all. He is a huge figure with the collectors and young collectors as well. I always consider the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis, and late 50's early 60's R&B in the top tier of collecting on the vinyl front. Hendrix belongs in that category not because of a huge catalog but a lasting appeal. That's just my two cents worth.

It is remarkable to consider that Jimi Hendrix only authorized the release of four albums and a handful of singles during his lifetime. We are fortunate that he preserved so much of his work for posterity. His love for recording has created a reserve of studio recordings and concert performances that furthers appreciation and understanding of his great legacy.
