I went back just a few pages and found these threads. Personally, I think a your idea is a good one. I voted yes. Some of us non-musicians could learn a lot about music with such a thread.
Oopsy soup, he wants to start a whole new forum, not a thread and wants in as a sub-forum to another forum not this one.
I am a coordinator for the Chicago Area Chamber Musicians Meetup Group which is an organization of about 140 instrumentalist musicians. We would sincerely like to have a forum where we can ask each other questions. There must also be other groups such as ours in other metropolitan cities. Count on us to support your initiative.
What would be the criteria that is required to post a thread (definition, key points) in that particular sub-forum and distinguish it from being just part of the current music forum?
I have always told people if they want to start a discussion thread without a ton of videos to put in the description "Discussion Thread." If you go to the "Why do people hate rap" thread it is more discussion than videos and the videos that are posted are only there to enhance a specific point.
So, how do you structure your sub-forum? Must play an instrument AND ONLY positive feedback required?
I would love such a forum but it would be a total disaster just like the Nature forum is.
Rather than quality discussion and educational material you will get the nincompoops posting goofy garbage and videos.
I did vote yes...at least it can then be proven futile.
This is still a fact.
Go ask Marka or Yac about it.
I personally think that this is more of a case where a lot of discussions about playing instruments will start after the new forum is created.
Playing musical instruments is one of the most popular hobbies that exists, so I'm sure lots of people here will participate.
And with all of the other hobbies that we currently have specific forums for, I am surprised that we don't also have a specific one for people who play musical instruments?
Playing instruments and listening to music are two different subjects.
When you mix the two subjects into a single forum, you lose interest in the forum by musicians, because musicians don't want to look at numerous pages of "do you like this band/song?" threads, to find threads about playing instruments.
I think the discussions should be in two separate forums, which is why I started this thread.
Playing instruments and listening to music are two different subjects.
^This. The purpose of the sub forum would be the discussing of the usual things like "being in a band issues", gig issues, gig experiences, questions on music theory, what's your favorite type of Guitar, Bass, Drum set, etc to play, what amp do you recommend for _____ , what do you think of this setup, who inspired you play the ____, have you ever toured?, home recording, etc,. Things strictly related to those of us who play music.
Granted, you'd have your usual issues with non-musicians trying to advise and argue, but we have that issue with the other forums too. That's people. People are going to try and advise on things they know nothing about. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have a forum. But I agree with the rest, we need more activity before we can bother Yac or Marka with such a request. At this juncture, it'd get shot down in a heart beat. Discussing it in this thread is a start though. We probably should bite the bullet, myself included, and start creating threads that relate to this sub forum. We get enough activity, enough threads, maybe we can justify our request. Hopefully if we build it, they will come.
The only issue is, is where do we post these threads? Music or _______? Like RD5050, I never go into the music forum because I find the discussions completely uninteresting. But that may be the best place for them.
