A late '60's group called the Montanas cut a few 45's on the Independence label. A CD comp came out several years ago. Not from Montana, but from England. But good stuff. Square Peg, check out You Got to be Loved on this CD. It didn't chart very high, but it's a great song!

Mississippi Allstars band (???)
Brownsville Station
Manhattan Transfer - pretty good
New York Dolls - Ooh!
MC 5 - MC = motor city (Detroit) Oh yeah!
E Street Band - From someplace in NJ that has an E Street - gotta like these guys!
Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66, 77 and 88 etc. - I think I remember them
Thanks, HH for that Montanas bit. Found it on Youtube. They sound like they could've done the soundtrack for Love, American Style.
And the 2nd best band on this list, imho, is Brownsville Station; R.I.P. Cub Coda. Thanks Fedup!
The best has to be MC 5. Well, doesn't have to be, but you get the idea... I like em!.
Interesting aside about bands names after cities/places.....think about this....once a band claims a city, thats essentially it forever for bands named after that city ever again, so one would hope they were good if it was your city represented. I suppose I lucked out with Chicago, but you can feel nothing but pity for Boston(after the first album, which was really nothing but Tom Scholz's basement demos, with a lead vocal, a great one, I admit, by Brad Delp, laid on), Kansas, Alabama, America, and the like. I'm still holding out for a great band named Milwaukee.......I would imagine they'd be a great bar band, re the breweries and such..........bad joke, I know...

What about Presidents of the United States of America? I guess that counts.
