I feel most adults feel that music isn't as good as in the "good ol' days", but I'll have to disagree...we have so many talented artists still making music, young ones on the scene, and artists that release just catchy songs:
Alicia Keys, Lorde, Lana del Rey, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons
Some adults yes, they do say this.
People who say that, listen to what they're told to via top 40 radio.
I think on a whole there is not a whole lot of good stuff. The Black Keys, Cassadee Pope, Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Lana Del Rey, Lorde, and others are good/great stuff. The only problem I have is besides Black Keys, Imagine Dragons, there is no real rock/metal groups in the mainstream now. Maybe Foo Fighters and Halestorm is too but that is it on the large scale.
Every decade has had it's share of bad music. That is the nature of Top 40, it's pop music that attempts to appeal to the masses. Heavily marketed and over produced. The 70s had Donny Osmond and the Bee Gees, the 21st century has Justin Beiber and Kanye West. Yet, each decade has very talented artists. The problem today is that mediocrity and image is the order of the day. Flash over substance. So you rarely get to hear the best talent out there. Same with literature. Authors such as Henry Miller, John Steinbeck and John Updike would likely never be published today. It's all about how to market.

But the fact is, Kanye West is one of the MOST critically-acclaimed artists of this generation. He is eccentric, and you may not like rap, but he is a so-called "critic darling"

I'd like to have some of these posters give some examples of songs they don't like...

It's cranky elderly people who think that, of whom there are many. A lot of old people just like to delude themselves that things were amazing when they were younger and that they suck now. Nostalgia is just a human reaction to aging since it helps them deal with their diminishing appearance and faculties.
I'm 24 and I think today's music is mostly crap.
Rock got too far away from the blues for my liking, the quality of musicianship got way worse, and I hate how whiny vocals seem to have become a big thing. R&B damn near kicked instrumentation out the window, everything's a studio beat now, and instead of making soul music for all aspects of life, it's just corny ballads and club music.
I went with a friend to see some current popular "indie" rock bands, then went and saw Santana and the Allman Brothers ... no comparison.

Agree with the bold. All that matters to me is if the song is good as a whole. I don't even necessarily care about the genre.
