Whose music do you like more?
I prefer Alicia Keys: If I Ain't Got You, Fallin', No One are definite classics. But she also has other amazing songs like Diary, Karma, Un-Thinkable, Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart, Like You'll Never See Me Again, Fire We Make, Tears Always Win, My Boo

Currently I'm not fond of either, BUT depending on the results of Adele's project with Phil Collins and how it turns out then I might listen a little more.

I like them both, but there are differences.

Most of Alicia's lyric slants in a more positive direction and Adele has a bit of anger in her songs. Case and point Chelsea Handler made the remark on her show "They should give the Grammies to the people who really deserve them, like that guy who pissed Adele off so much.

And there are similarities with micro differences.

How do I explain that statement?

There are very good singers out there, but the type that stand out the most are those who's voices could actually count as an instrument equal to the others. Alicia and Adele both have this quality in a high degree. You would still get the full sound and feel if they sang without music backing them.

When Heart did the final performance of Stairway to Heaven for the Kennedy Center Honors someone posted somewhere "It only showed it took a lead singer, 2 choirs, an orchestra and brass section to do what Robert Plant could do all by himself with just his own voice." Hence, the voice as an equivalent instrument. There are good singers out there who do not necessarily fit this quality.

Adele has a harder edge than Alicia. They are 'mood singers. It's like comparing Alanis Moressette to Enya. There's just enough of a mood change within the same genre.

I admire both of them and their talent.
