A few weeks ago my sister had a friend in town, and she complained about the music played in the background around here. She wanted to hear Katy Perry and we didn't have that.
I live in a really diverse and integrated city (contrary to popular belief) so music in restaurants/stores etc can vary quite a bit. It isn't unusual to hear hip hop in a place owned by hipsters. Motown in a cafe with owners under 40. Latin music in an American restaurant. And yes that hipster music as well.
I went to a bar/pub today and they were playing classic soul and new school soul that sounded like 60s soul and reggae.
One of my fave south East Asian places plays mostly old school hip hop!
So what do you hear in your hood? Too 40, classic rock, bossa nova, smooth jazz or something else?
pubs would be Rock/Blues
my favourite place for coffee : 90's grunge/rock: {or just the chatter of patrons}
My area is pretty eclectic. There are a lot of people into rockabilly, rock, 60's soul, whatever goes really.
You know you are old when you hear the songs you grew up with on Muzak.
