I wish whatever aliens abducted the real Joni Mitchell in 1976 would bring her back...

Jimi of course
John & George
Ronnie Lane
Steve Marriott
Charlie Tumahai

There are more, but those are first to come to mind.

Harry Chapin and George Harrison for reasons besides their musical contributions.

George Harrison organized the first benefit rock concert ever-- The Concert for Bangladesh. He was close friends with Ravi Shankar who told him about what was going on in that country. Got several top drawer musicians to join him to play two concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden, among them Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, and Leon Russell.

Harry Chapin gave a lot of his time towards social causes, founded World Hunger Year. Was presented the Congressional Gold Medal for his causes. Chapin died of a heart attack while also being involved in an ugly traffic accident. Years later Ken Kragon, Chapin's music manager, got involved with Hands Across America and USA for Africa in the mid 1980's.
