I think I have to go with Queen with Freddie Mercury. Seeing clips of some of their performances with him look amazing.

Oh and to the OP, I was lucky enough to see Morphine once before Mark Sandman passed away. Really great show. He died WAYYYY too early. Put out some fantastic albums.

If I can only cite ONE band, it'll have to be The Beatles. Probably either in Hamburg or at the Cavern Club though, since that's when they played for hours and had been a very tight band (though they had their Replacement-like moments of sloppiness and drunkenness too). That's not to say that I would have turned down one of their Beatlemania-era concerts (late '63 - '66). However, they were more spectacle and event rather than music.

I've been fortunate to see many of my favorite bands, but bands I missed include:
The Byrds (circa '65-'66, when Gene Clark was still with them)
Small Faces: I've seen some great videos from '66 and '68 on youtube
Cat Stevens: circa 1972
The Clash: London Calling tour
Even though I saw The Who back in 1980, I'd have loved to see them back in '66-'68, in the mod years, when Daltry still had his shirt on!

But I will be seeing these guys soon at the Mountain Winery!

I saw Bob Segar and Bob Dylan many, many years ago. Bob Segar put on a fantastic show.

As much as I enjoy Bob Dylan, his concert was kind of boring and he was difficult to understand (more so than usual) but I'm glad I had the opportunity to see him live

It's not just a matter of seeing who, but seeing them when.

The Clash
I'd like to have seen them sometime in 1980, after the release of London Calling. The bulk of their best work was written and being performed, and the internal stresses in the band hadn't yet gotten too severe. The closest I ever got was seeing Mick Jones in Big Audio Dynamite II opening for U2 (BAD2 was very forgettable; U2 was fantastic).

U2
Oh, I've seen them three times, but never before 1992. Any of the tours supporting War, The Unforgettable Fire (my first choice) or even The Joshua Tree would have been spectacular.

Springsteen
The Born in the U.S.A. tour. Enough said.

Agreed, it's about when. My first U2 show was on the Unforgettable Fire Tour - incredible - haven't missed a tour since, have now seen them 50 times and counting. I could have seen them on the War tour in NYC but I was a starving art student and couldn't afford the tix. One of my biggest regrets.

I saw Rory Gallagher as support for Rush at Madison Square Garden back in '82? Perhaps '83? Wish I'd known then what I know about him now.
