What about the Golden Palominos? Not truly a supergroup, I guess, but they did have an impressive parade of guest vocalists (John Lydon, Michael Stipe, Syd Straw, Matthew Sweet) and musicians (Jack Bruce, Richard Thompson, Don Dixon, Chris Stamey, Mick Taylor, Bernie Worrell, T-Bone Burnett) contributing to various albums.

This is a cover of a Lowell George song, lead vocals by the fantastic Syd Straw:

Tinted Windows.

Smashing Pumpkins + Cheap Trick + Fountains of Wayne + Hanson = wtf.

That said, I do like Golden Smog's first album better than most of the stuff the members have done.

Blind Faith's predecessor was Traffic and Cream.
I don't know how obscure a certified platinum album can be but they were only together as Blind Faith for this one album released in 1969.

May be obscure among non-TexMex populace.

Augie Meyers, Doug Sahm, Flaco Jimenez and Freddy Fender.

They turned into a HUGE success with their 'sister' band The Parliament Funkadelics and Then George stood out and it became George Clinton and the Parliment Funkadelics. Huge band too.

Google Image Search George Clinton for a 'today' photo.
