Now that Billboard has published its hot 100 year-end list for 2014, it's time to discuss which songs are the best and which are the worst. What are your picks? Here are mine:

Best:

10. "Habits (Stay High)" - Tove Lo
9. "Latch" - Disclosure
8. "Don't" - Ed Sheeran
7. "Ain't It Fun" - Paramore
6. "Chandalier" - Sia
5. "Pompeii" - Bastille
4. "Team" - Lorde
3. "Happy" - Pharrell Williams
2. "Love Never Felt So Good" - Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake
1. "Uptown Funk" - Mark Ronson (didn't appear on the 2014 year-end list because it came out so late in 2014 but it's such a good song that it deserves the # 1 spot)

Worst:

10. "Shake It Off" - Taylor Swift
9. "Amnesia" - 5 Seconds of Summer
8. "Dark Horse" and "This is How We Do" (tie) - Katy Perry
7. "Don't Tell 'Em" - Jeremih
6. "Loyal" - Chris Brown
5. "Fancy" - Iggy Azalea
4. "Anaconda" - Nicki Minaj
3. "Wiggle" - Jason Derulo
2. "Animals" - Maroon 5
1. "Hello Kitty" - Avril Lavigne (wasn't on the year-end chart, but this song was is terrible, I knew it would be the worst song of the year the minute I heard it for the first time)

I can't say I was familiar with many of the songs on the list but the ones I was were truly god awful.

The worst song of 2014.....

All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor

This song isn't just stupid, it's developmentally disabled, makes Friday by Rebecca Black look like a masterwork.

My ten best of 2014

1. Brill Bruisers by The New Pornographers
2. Changes (Waiting For You) by Future Islands
3. Trainwreck by Death From Above 1979
4. Talking Backward by Real Estate
5. Mr. Noah by Panda Bear
6. Autumn by Bear In Heaven
7. Red Eyes by War On Drugs
8. Queen by Perfume Genius
9. Warning by Cymbals Eat Guitars
10. Happy Idiot by TV On The Radio

The Billboard list shows how irrelevant they have been since the 1970s but in the 21st century Pitchfork >>Billboard

All those songs you listed for best I would move into the worst section. I'd remove Don't Tell Em from worst list and put it on the best list.

I'll stick with only the songs that gained any traction on the charts.

Best:

Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson
HOZIER – TAKE ME TO CHURCH
SIA – CHANDELIER
FALL OUT BOY – CENTURIES
BASTILLE – POMPEII
ALOE BLACC – THE MAN
PASSENGER – LET HER GO
Sleeper Agent - Be Brave
Stolen Dance - Milky Chance

Worst:

95% of everything else played on pop radio.
