Which was the better mainstream rock band of the 90's. And who am I leaving out?

I put these groups together because I believe they all had 4 or 5 or even more heavily played songs.

Maybe Alice and Chains?

Of the bands listed I chose Nirvana. But I think both Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots were better. Still dont understand how Green Day made it into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
