A group of guys mostly don't play any instrument at all. If they do, it's only one of them and rarely do so. Think Backstreet Boys, Boyz II Men, Jackson Five, etc.
......rose to fame as a member of a boy band. I'll make it easy for you by filling out one of the three spots.
1) Michael Jackson
2)_____________
3)_____________
Some of the contenders would be Brian and Nick from Backstreet Boys, JC Chasez from NSYCN, Zayn from One Direction, Shawn from Boyz II Men, and Nick from 98 Degree.
The Beatles were not a boy band. They were a band of adult men. And even if they had been boys, they still have virtually nothing in common with the groups everyone agrees are/were boy bands (NKOTB, Backstreet Boys, Osmonds, Jackson 5, et al.)

Sorry, but they were boys not a group of men, unless 15, 16 and 14 are adults where you live.
"In March 1957, John Lennon, then aged sixteen, formed a skiffle group with several friends from Quarry Bank school. They briefly called themselves the Blackjacks, before changing their name to the Quarrymen after discovering that a respected local group was already using the other name.[4] Fifteen-year-old Paul McCartney joined as a rhythm guitarist shortly after he and Lennon met that July.[5] In February 1958, McCartney invited his friend George Harrison to watch the band. The fourteen-year-old auditioned for Lennon, impressing him with his playing, but Lennon initially thought Harrison was too young to join them. After a month of Harrison's persistence, they enlisted him as their lead guitarist."
If you want to get real technical, most of the Boyz to Men and other contemporary Boy "Bands" weren't "Bands" at all since none of them played any instruments and just danced.
