what does weight have to do with vocal talent and songwriting ability? You wanna see a REAL list of the best female singers and or songwriters? (no particular order)

1.Allison Krauss
2.Tracy Chapman
3.Mavis Staples (she's HUGE so your weight debate is waaay off)
4.Judy Collins
5.Diana Ross
6.Joni Mitchell
7.Janis Joplin
8.Aretha Franklin
9. Billie Holiday
10.Ella Fitzgerald
11. Patti Loveless
12.Etta James

Madonna is garbage, especially compared to them.

Why are posters coming here and trying to start a flame war over Madonna?

This thread was created for people who like her and her music.

It would be like going to the 70's thread and bashing on any artist who put out music in the 70's.

If you don't like Madonna then start your own thread about that.

Your comments are a joke, strange and clearly you don't understand what a good singer/musician is about.

I find it odd, too, that you refer to Madonna as Madge. If you're such a fan you would know she hates being called Madge and is the reason she left England because she couldn't stand being called that. But don't worry I'm sure if you "save your pennies" she'll let you sit in the front row, you may be alone though, so many are walking out of her concerts.

Do you also consider the sound of crying babies mixed with a construction site and fingernails scraping a chalkboard excellent? Then if so, I agree.

My comments ROCK - and are better than yours! And yes, I DO know what a good musician/singer is all about. In fact, I was in a band with a top 40 musicians - let's just say I'm not gonna be "as nasty as I wanna be" about it!

That aside, I DO very much like all the singers you mentioned - 'cept the ones I never heard of, and maybe given a listen, I'd like them too. But you don't hafta be an opera soprano to be a great artist. Poll 100 people, name 3 songs by Madonna or name 1 song by Maria Callas -

And again, I loved Whitney - but what has she done lately? I REALLY REALLY love Ann Wilson - but her last good original song was 25 years ago - and she didn't write it. Madonna? By God, 8 out of her last ten singles were #1 on the US Dance chart. I can't even keep up with them it happens so fast and I'm a fan.

Madge is all Marilyn Monroe was without the death. Well - next best thing anyways. Her chart numbers speak much louder than her critics. Even if I hated her, it doesn't matter. She's the number one selling female artist of all time and she's not done yet. She came out the same time as U2, Whitney, ten years before Guns n Roses. She was on stage at Live Aid with Phil Collins, Elvis Costello, Dire Straits, Billy Ocean, Rick Springfield, Judas Priest, REO Speedwagon, The Cars, Duran Duran - shall I go on? Where are THEY now? And what are they doing now?

Here's what Madge is doing. Some of us like it. Get used to it. I'm sure there's gonna be a lot more.

Yes.

The post above Matadora's? It has merit, best way to decide this is to have a poll--on a separate thread of course.

And let's watch how we address each other on this message board. Thank you.
