I'm thinking Ian Watkins "win" this? Still, curious. Especially to learn about some more obscure stuff.

The Godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown did eight years in prison on a murder conviction before his music career.

Keith Moon from The WHO was well known for his antics.

One time he drove a Lincoln Continental into the hotel swimming pool.

He was also know for his pyrotechnic acts while he played the drums. In this clip even he was surprised how the whole drum set blew up in flames. He'd put double the explosives in it. He also had a drum set at one time with gold fish in it.

Jim Henson of The Muppets modeled the character animal after Keith Moon

For some real interesting musician outrageous behavior Read the BIO Stairway to Heaven about Led Zeppelin and the particular passage about the girl in the bathtub and the eel they put in it with her.....and then what she let it do to her.

The band members of the band Mayhem made necklaces out of the shattered bones of their lead singers head after he committed suicide.

I'm sure there are also many heinous things El Duce from the Mentors did.

I would never vote for Keith Moon. He was drunk as a skunk half the time and did a lot of stupid stuff, but all in good fun. None of it was heinous!

Now, when McKenzie Phillips came out and said she grew up having a sexual relationship with her dad, "Papa" John Phillips -- THAT was heinous.

Varg Vikernes killing the guy who helped him break into the music business, as someone above mentioned -- totally heinous.

The guys in Mayhem finding their leadsinger had committed suicide and rushing out for a camera, so they could use a photo of the scene on the cover of their next album -- that qualifies as heinous. The fact that they then sat down and made dinner out of the guy's brain, and took pieces of his skull to make jewelry out of -- that is pretty frikkin' heinous.

Drummer Jim Gordon was (and is still) in prison for the crime of matricide when he won a Grammy for being co-writer of "Layla". I didn't see the show when the award was made so I don't know how much (if any) mention he got.
