Tears of a Clown was 1970? That song always sounded '62-'65 at the latest to me, very early Sixties.

I voted for Bridge over Troubled Water, such a perfect song, but I wish I could go back and include "I Want You Back" as well.

Yep, as a single anyway....released late that year. I remember hearing it almost every day on my way to work in November and December 1970.

But since you raised the question, I did a search on its history and found that it was on the 1967 "Make it Happen" album. I had never heard of the song until that late '70 release, but it quickly became a collectible for me. I still have my 45 rpm copy.

I had the special privilege of meeting Smokey Robinson about 11 years ago when he was traveling in promotion of a new food product bearing his name. I had my 45 single in hand, hoping for an autograph. But sadly they announced that Smokey wouldn't have time for that. He did, however, take the time to give everyone who stood in line to meet him a big hug, along with a picture taken with him. When my turn came, "Tears of a Clown" in hand, I told him it was one of my all time favorites....and he said, in that unmistakable soft Smokey voice, "God Bless You, Man." I still have that picture somewhere - at least I hope I do - packed away in a box somewhere. Gonna have to look for it.
