The golden years were from the 50's to the 70's after that nobody is that original. There were a few good original solo's that came out of the 80's like, Van Halen, Jeff Beck and Brian May ,Stanley Jordan, but after that just about every body playing , jazz ,Rock , Blues, or fusion sounds like some one who came before them.

Solos — on either guitar, keyboard or (yes) bass) — are integral to rock music. This is a given. A solo is an improvisation and tends to be a complementary composition all its own. Or it can be something rather boring, which is what happens when you rely on the same triplet to form the basis for your solo — yawn.

Rock songs without solos happen because nobody in the band can play a solo worth a damn. This is almost always the case, especially with the bulk of "current" bands. The guitarists can barely get by.

When solos are jettisoned, the band does nothing else to further the song. Instead, they just repeat the chorus. Or maybe they just vamp for a few bars — chugga chugga chugga. Wham, bam. Great! Another 3-minute, 43-second song in the can.

For the most part, rock songs sans solos are jokes. (There are exceptions, of course.)

One of the greatest guitar solos ever. It's not always about a bazillion notes-per-bar.

I'm not saying this is the best, but it is definitely one of the most perfectly executed.
Every aspect of it is a home run.

That was an interesting clip. I never heard of that guy before, but he's apparently pretty damn good on the instrument, that's for sure.
