Dave Clark Five singer Smith dies.

Bandmate Denis Payton, who played saxophone, harmonica and guitar, died of cancer in 2006.

The group are due to be inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in New York on 10 March, alongside acts including Madonna, John Mellencamp and Leonard Cohen.

The thing about the DC-5 is in the first few months when the British Invasion they were right behind the Beatles in chart hit positions in the first half of 1964. At least they got nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before he passed. And they should not have just been inducted; the DC-5 should have been in a long time ago. Mike Smith had one of those booming voices that you could immediately identify with. RIP, Mike.

Yeah, I remember them being right behind the Beatles as well. I don't think you could find more perfect pop tunes than Because and Glad All Over.
