Songwriters are challenged to write lyrics which are original. Other threads bemoan the state of lyrics (repetition, similar topics, over-simplicity) and while there is no shortage of topics, making a relevant song presents itself as a test of the writer’s abilities. The melody can task the songwriter as well, but then there’s the title. Only so many short sentences, statements, or verses that convey the song’s meaning or intent. Unless you’re Fallout Boy, they often just title their song in any way they feel.

There are a lot of repetitive titles for songs with vastly different lyrics. “Crazy”, for example, can be an early-60s hit for Patsy Cline (written by Willie Nelson), an 80s pop hit for Icehouse, an early 90s synth-pop dance song for Seal or a power ballad for Aerosmith, or funk from Gnarls Barkley ten years ago. “Hold On” was also used a lot for a title

An example of the same title, these two songs even came out the same year (1982) but are very different. See how many others are out there, especially great dichotomies, the ones that are way different in lyrics and melody.
