My mom gave me her record collection a few decades back and it's loaded with Ella. When I played my 50's and 60's rock 45's into the ground on my $9 Woolworths record player I would sneak in some of my moms jazz lp's. And got an appreciation of jazz music early.
Here's a top 10 of her albums ya can't go wrong with.
The Complete Ella In Berlin
Clap Hands Here Comes Charlie
Ella Sings The Irving Berlin Song Book
Ella Sings Gershwin
Lullabies Of Birdland
The First Lady Of Song
Get Happy!
Mack The Knife-Ella In Berlin!
The Rodgers And Hart Song Book
Ella At Dukes Place
She was involved with everyone on the Jazz scene; Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and several other jazz producers, singers, and arrangers. Her career spanned 5 decades, from the 40's to the 80's.
One of the great jazz personalities of the last 75 years.
