I was in high school in the 90s and I would mostly listen to 80s music back then. I didn't really listen to 90s music until well into the 2000s. And I only started discovering good music from the 2000s (like Modest Mouse or The Strokes) recently.

Jazz-Rock Fusion
Blues Rock

The 60s has gotta be the most diverse decade ever and it carried over to the early 70s before things went south....

I love it when I 'discover' an artist. Just recently discovered Brandi Carlile, whose ballad
'Evangeline' was playing frequently on the radio.

I do like a good 'discovery', but more and more I'm finding that 're-discovery' is far more satisfying. That 'wow, I've not heard this in ages' moment makes me far happier than that 'wow what's this?' moment these days. Might be my age though.. That's the thing about music. You have to lean towards it. "Discovering" it means that you have to first discover something within yourself.

Although I knew they existed in the 90s, I finally bought something by Mudhoney.

Better late than never. They're damn good.

I wouldn't say that I have constantly been discovering new stuff, but yes, for the past couple of years, I have been listening to a couple of male singers that I didn't pay much attention to if any before then and ever since I got into them, I've been wishing that I had been a fan of them while they were still here with us, I love my late beautiful precious Billy Joe Royal and Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys SO much!!!

God bless you and their families always!!!

Holly

You sound like me. I didn't really appreciate 90's music until we were in the 2000's. I had loved 80's music all throughout the 80's and 90's. I guess that's because the 80's was when I grew up. I had two older brothers who graduated High School and college in the 80's, so I was always kind of jealous that they got to be "adults" during the time that some of my most favorite artists were the "In thing" to listen to.

So, I hung onto the 80's through out the time I graduated high school (in 1993) and through much of college as well. It wasn't until we got into the early to mid 2000's that I really started to appreciate 90's music. And honestly, a lot of that had to do with nostalgia. A song from the 90's would remind me of a moment where I was in college hanging out with friends or would remind me of a girl I used to have a crush on or some other event during those years. 80's music just reminded me of a decade of innocence for me, but also a decade where I wished I had been closer to my brothers' ages so that I could have experienced high school in the 1980's.

As for the 2000's, I actually enjoyed several artists and bands from that area right from the get-go. Bands like Evanescence, Alterbridge, Staind, Arvil Lavinge, etc... but by the time we got to the end of the 2000's, I didn't really listen to the radio as much as I used to, and thus, have kind of gotten away from what the "in" music is now. Of course, I've always been into guitar driven rock music and not a lot of that is being played on top 40 nowadays.

Yes! Recently bought Cloud Nine album by George Harrison, which is great! and like most of his last album, Brainwashed (don't care for the title song though).

My recent "discoveries" are The War On Drugs, BellX1 and The Shins. They've all been around awhile, but I just never paid attention.

A newer band in my list of discoveries is 8 Track Love.

Oh yes. The bargain bin at the record store has so much great music, from all eras. Used CDs are such a bargain as well that you can explore music you'd never buy otherwise.
