Yes it was sad. Marvin Gaye was a sound of a generation. The tragedy was his relationship with his father. Drugs (recreational), beatings and unknown brain tumors are a bad combination.

Also, IMO, this is one of those kind of songs that when you first start to listen to it, you have to listen to it all the way through.
