I was going to just leave it be, but I have to say, in my opinion, Sun Ra towers over probably any other artist included on this thread. Yes, there is an overabundance of live recordings of the same old space chants (which tend not to be as fun when you aren't actually at an Arkestra concert), but he absolutely has the goods. I don't know what percentage of his output is his best work (it keeps changing anyway, as previously unreleased material emerges), but he recorded enough great material to make him a towering, major figure. Prolific John Zorn can't shine his shoes. Nu-jazz/Acid jazz/whatever acts can't come close. But he isn't necessarily what you are looking for, especially on this particular thread. I understand.

I don't know him that well but I heard of him 40 years ago from a jazz musician / housemate. Interesting story but not really for me. Put on a live performance video just now and didnt like it at all. I'll listen to more from different periods later.

I've listen to 8 other tracks and disliked them all. I am not a free jazz fan. It is too busy, random. Really dislike the trumpet, trombone, sax parts I heard in front. And the vocals when added. Just him on piano in far past, didn't like that much either. I'll leave him for others to enjoy.

Somebody or I might have already posted. I sometimes forget.

Ran across that Binkbeats song again. If I heard it before, I forgot. Listen to a half dozen other tracks. It is interesting with technical skill. Might be better technically than musically. Haven't sound a favorite track to win me over yet.

It is pretty standard spy sound, but I'll put this here.

What is your second favorite track by him? The best "music" (not focusing on technique)?

Hard for me to separate the technique but each style has its place. This covers the journey well.

I went back to the first video. It is the most conventional song with a nice melody. The other stuff is interesting to me but comes across basically as noise projects and not really songs.
