I've got an interesting John Waite/Babys story for ya.

Late 70's - I was working at the Columbus OH club "The Agora" (Now "Newport Music Hall") and the Babys were about to soundcheck. Waite was in the mens room about to take a whiz and the head of maintenance (a former marine and real redneck) starts asking him what the he!! he's doing in the club while it's closed. I intervened and explained who the guy dressed like a rock star was and all was good. But if you heard Waite's regular speaking voice, you wouldn't believe it was the same person on those albums. He was more melodic and soulful than he got credit for. As was THIS singer...

Sadly, the songwriters committed suicide: Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger. Tragic story, beautiful song.
