I'm still exploring tons of great - but obscure by today's standards - rock groups from the 70s. There's plenty of great music to date (including 60s, 80s, 90s...)
I'm 65, a guitar player, and I love rock these days. I only listen to guitar driven music like, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Deep Purple, Joe Bonamassa, Dream theater, Steve Lukather, Marrilion, The Flower Kings, Jeff Beck, Jeff Healey, Joe Satriani, Robin Trower. I could name more, but these guys are still putting out great rock albums and I could give a rip if their ever heard on AM stations.
Like who you like and don't. And I'll do the same.
Fwiw, I find the Tame Impalas ok but too tame, boring. 21 Pilots, the least rock, worst group played on one of my local rock stations. I hustle to turn that off. Cueshe? Never heard of them. Will soon forget them. Already have.
Looked around for an hour or two for something new with promise. Didnt find it today. Did see a bunch of groups from Australia and New Zealand being promoted. Perhaps there is something there but on the surface none jumped out quick. Anybody have a strong rock band selection from that part of world? How about Germany, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe or Russia?
I'd put money on Rival Sons, Larkin Poe, and Tyler Bryant each putting out a timeless blues-rock album in their lifetimes. Joe Bonamassa too but only if he's the guitarist in a band or collaboration.
Rival Sons are solid. I am not sure they are uniquely great to my ear though.
I like what I've heard from Larkin Poe but it has mainly been covers.
