I grew up listening to a lot of Bach and Vivaldi, because that's what my parents liked. Of course, Vivaldi sells cars on TV now.

I always liked this piece by the Czech composer Smetana, mostly known as The Moldau (but I think originally it was known as the Vltava, named for a river, and it reminds me very much of moving water.) Like Beethoven, he became deaf in his later years, not good for anyone, but especially wrenching for a composer.
