The Turtle are my favorite 60s band. I just like the general feel of their songs - the lyrics, the tempos, the harmonies, the drums.

I also like Herman's Hermits. I like the guitar in their songs.

I didn't list the Beatles above. They are definitely a 60s band but they transcend the era for me.

Ok, I'll play.......The Searchers. If you're too young to remember, think "Love Potion Number Nine". Beaten to death by oldies radio over the decades.

Still at it, approaching the fifty year mark for founding member John McNally. Currently touring, might even be on their run through the U.S. right now, not sure. The "new boy" Frank Allen has had almost forty-five years with the band, vocalist Spencer James twenty-three years.

Not to be confused with Mike Pender's Searchers, you'll see that one if you watch those PBS oldies shows. An original member of course, but one who legally has no right to use the name and usually ends up in British court after doing so. Generally unliked by the fans of the true group.

Original lead singer Tony Jackson and original drummer Chris Curtis both now passed on.

Well, there are the usual suspects such as The Beatles and Rolling Stones.
They would be my favorites from that time.

Linc, I loved Spencer Davis, Kinks and the Faces.

Other choices:
Bob Dylan
Beach Boys
Sly and the Family Stone

Some of the artists that I like from the 60s I wasn't too familiar with back in the day, mainly due to having just AM radio and being a kid. So I'll answer the question as if it was asked of me when I was about 13.

The Lovin' Spoonful: 2 years. That's all they were around for but they seemed to constantly have a song on the charts during that time.

Donovan: Sunshine Superman, Mellow Yellow, Hurdy Gurdy Man, etc. I had no idea that I was listening to future Led Zeppers.

The Monkees: Yeah, I was a fan.

The Animals: From the time I heard House Of The Rising Sun and saw my mother wincing at Eric Burdon's upper register, I knew I was going to like these guys.

And like Niners fan above, I related well to the sounds of the Turtles and Herman's Hermits. I've always had a sweet tooth for pop and truly don't recall many artists that I actively disliked during the decade.

Those are the guys that I ran down to the music shop and purchased regularly, along with the Beatles & Stones, but I also held many of the ladies in high esteem. I just didn't buy their music for some unknown, illogical reason. Money may have been it. But I loved The Supremes, Ronettes, Shirelles, Leslie Gore, Martha & The Vandellas.

The Faces [Small or not] I just dont think that their influence on music yet to come can be argued.
Square peg--the important thing about The Animals' House of the Rising Sun was the arrangement. This song was originally recorded way up in the hills of eastern Kentucky by John Lomax in the 1930's. he sat up primitive recording equipment in various towns in Appalacchia to record ''American Folk Music'' for the Library of Congress. The animals version is VERY different from the original.
