My companion, who is 75, remembers songs his mother used to sing to him when he was a child.
One such song is Old Black Joe. In this clip a german lady is singing it with an accordian. Anyone else have any old songs from yesteryear that their mother used to sing?
Don's mother used to sing lullabys to him while she rocked him trying to make him sleep. He said he hated being held and would always pretend to be asleep so she would put him down.
I don't remember my mom singing lullabys to me. I remember her humming, but can't remember any songs. Guess I didn't need help falling asleep!
My mother used to sing this to us, now I sing it to my grands.
Would You Like To Swing On A Star, Or Carry Moonbeams Home In A Jar?
A mule is an animal with long funny ears,
He kicks up at anything he hears.
His back is brawny and his brain is weak,
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak,
So if you don't go to school,
You may grow up to be a mule!
Or would you rather swing on a star,
Carry moonbeams home in a jar,
And be better off than you are,
Or would you rather be a mule?
A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace.
He has no manners when he eats his food.
He's just plain lazy, and extremely rude,
So if you don't care a feather for a fig,
You may grow up to be a pig,
Or would you rather swing on a star,
Carry moonbeams home in a jar,
And be better off than you are,
Or would you rather be a pig?
My grandmother used to sing "Kay Sarah Sarah, whatever will be, will be". I loved to hear her sing.
