No, I'm generally speaking about the people in this thread that say "all rap is about killing people, mistreating women, etc". Those people don't know what they're talking about - and most of the posts are like this - because all rap is not like that.
I know what you mean, but its still an opinion. I like stuff that would probably make your hair stand up!
What I am trying to elucidate is the difference between "fact" and "opinion". I personally think, to each his own, ya know?
Louis Armstrong really kicked off the show for all this, are you familiar with his famous quote about the diff between good music and bad? Thats what its really all about.

Look at the quote above you. Stuff like that is what I'm referring to.
Lots of hip-hop is sophisticated and original -more so than many other genres, in fact. It sounds to me like most people on here flipped on BET, saw some crappy mainstream videos and based their whole judgment of the genre on that.
I could say all rock is about suicide and whiny ******* because emo is popular right now and that's what is big on the radio stations. But I know that's not true.

One last thought, as a musical anthropologist..... wasnt the same said about jazz, and one its most gorgous physical interpreters, Josephine Baker?
I am still ashamed of the fact that she had to get the hell out of Saint Louis (my hometown), and the US, to be appreciated for the fabulous person she was!
