I'd like to have another Joe Cocker album (I can't find my tape! It makes me sad!).
Also, Three Dog Night. I had one of their albums one time! The one with the giant deck of cards. Earth, Wind, and Fire The Isley Brothers (Met them in Berkeley at a Tower Record signing event-at that time, I had no clue as to who these guys were-and they were decked out in jump suits with capes! Impressed this little bug, that is for sure!).
They sure are! When they first came out they covered MCA artists who recorded on subsidiary labels (Decca, Dunhill, ABC, and others). Now I'm seeing Motown, A&M, and other labels get involved. They are usually 12 tracks and the price IS affordable.
I'd like to add alot to mine but only vinyl I find around my neck of the woods is in to bad of shape to give a nickel for. For the life of me I just can't understand why so many find it hard to take care of their records. In all honesty, I never put a scratch on a record ''yet'', but yet it seems so many folks can't seem from wrecking theirs without trying. What a shame. My kids are girl age 12, and boy age 14, even my 12 year old girl has never put a scratch on my records,,and I fully trust even her to put on records for me, use a vinyl care kit and all. It's not hard to teach kids how to care for records, nor is it hard to teach them to listen with their EARS.When they learn sound quality, they'll take great care to keep records sounding ''scratch free ''. I can't understand why if a kid can take good care of records like I was taught as a kid, why can't more adults do the same? I find vinyl in very sad shape, even though it's still in a cover. It's gettin' hard for a picky fella to find good used vinyl in the sticks. Each of my two kids have 100 WPC setups from late 70's and they soon threw away the modern MEGA WATT gear after the vintage blew it away.Good ole dad can still blow them out of the water though.
I only play clean scratch free records on the TT as it is costly to replace a decent stylus.
If I ever hit the lotto, I'll prolly rack up on all the ''new'', or at least very mint records I can.
Good post! Your name sounded familiar; looked a couple pages back and saw the collecting vinyl thread you started. Anyway, sadly, you are right. There are still people who don't get the condition factor in collecting. Noticed you are maybe an hour east of Nashville. Don't know the used store situation but there should be several around there, I would think. Check out vinyl.times.com as they have listings for record/cd/memorabilia meets in Nashville. Thanks for posting the Amazon link, been on a 180 gram and import vinyl kick lately. Will check it out.
Im trying to get rid of my collection and buy an i-pod.
