Talking What song did you sing that you had not a clue as to what the lyrics were, or what they meant?

Afternoon Delight
Joy To The World
Blinded By The Light...

Should get us all started! I hadn't a clue as to what some of, or all of the lyrics/meanings were or meant in these songs, until I grew up!! LOL!!!!!!

The one that quickly comes to mind is:

American Pie by Don McLean

All great ryhmes but at the expense of the song being meaningless.

There was one song by Joe Cocker (I can't think of the name of it) but I would sing it all the time and there was one part that I never understood so I would just fill it in with "a hot dog and a french fries." lol

Do you want an explanation?

I started to write one, but see I don't have time to finish. I googled the song and here is a site that explains what the lyrics mean. Think of Don McLean as the Nostrodamus or the Shakespere of his time. Lots of hidden meaning in the words.

"American Pie" Lyrics - What Do They Mean?

This song here came out when I was about 9, had no idea it was about drugs and sex until I was about 13. Still love the song though.

A couple of Creedence songs come to mind...

I used to think "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" was "Have You Ever Seen Loraine"

"Bad Moon On the Rise" was "Bathroom on the Right"

The lyrics to "Down on the Corner" were completely lost to me for years. It wasn't until I played the song in a band that I learned the real lines.

That is amazing. It's hard for us to believe that McLean knew all this when he wrote the song. These explainations seem to suggest this was written after, maybe way after the song.

Either way I have to say: "ya learn something every day".
