I like his radio program and he's been quite successful staying sober in his own kind of way. Hats off to that too. I would say he's successfully evolved.
My favorite album of his. Generation Landslide speaks volumes about the times then. By then, Steve Hunter was filling Glen Buxton's guitar. Glen had become such a raging drunk that they'd often resort to unplugging his axe. Sad, because in earlier years Buxton could really play well. RIP, Glen.
"Killer" album also had some neat stuff.
Alice was the original shocker. Marilyn Manson is merely a bad imitation.
Forgot to mention in my earlier post on Cooper that he has one cool restaurant. Alice Cooper'stown Sports Bar and Grill in Phoenix. It opened up in '98, was in there in 2001 for the Cardinal/Bronco season opener (kickoff temperature 100 deg.-yikes!) Lots of beers on tap, great layout, and great food. Check out their website!
It is was the regular season opener. Labor day weekend. 100degrees at 6 p.m.! Disgusting! Sockeye is in!! Marilyn Manson- um, I don't get it. That's what happens when you get old.
I saw Alice 2 years ago ...got back stage passes cuz my friend knows the drummer ....my friend brought his copy of "Pretties For You" for him to sign it
All I know is he put on a great show and my ears were ringing for a week!
Alice still looks (and sings) amazingly good
His first 3 albums were originally on Frank Zappa's Straight label
Alot of newer fans don't know Alice Cooper was also a group too,
they split up in early 1974 after the "Muscle of Love" Tour
Producer Bob Ezrin used session guitarists Hunter/Wagner for lead solos for both "Billion Dollar Babies" and Muscle of Love sessions ...Glen Buxton was out of it and was never a really good lead player anyway ... I have a video of the 1973 Billion Dollar Babies Tour and Rick Derringer was brought in to play most of the leads
Legend has it the their first album "Pretties for You" was "self" produced because when Zappa told the group to show up at 7 they thought he meant 7 am (not 7 pm) ...the results are almost unlistenable, it was recorded Nov '68 and released April 1969 . The 2nd album "Easy Action" is alot more listenable
