William Bell- You Don't Miss Your Water -Stax soul from 1961. Minor hit, probably better known for the countrified Byrds cover on Sweetheart of the Rodeo.
I will never be able to remember what has gone before! I've looked at about 25 pages, perhaps more, and I just know I'll end up repeating songs. I hope that's OK.
We ALL know that the Sixties was THE greatest decade for music! The quantity of talent, the distinct sounds, and the sprawling variety are mindboggling! Or, should that be mindbending? Even with a lot of one hit wonders, it's truly remarkable. No other time can match it. Imagine: We were listening to folk, "acid" rock, R&B, pop, bubblegum, and so much more, everyone from Petula Clark to Ravi Shankar; from The Beatles to Ten Miles High; from The Mamas and and the Papas to Steppenwolf; ffrom Donovan to Bob Dylan; from Sly & the Family Stone to The Who; and on and on and on. We had novelty songs and instrumentals, too. We had FUN with our music; it made us cry; it cheered us up; it consoled us; it demanded that we think. There was something for every mood, every moment, every fact of our lives. I notice that we did not pigeonhole music; generally, a person didn't like ONLY R&B or ONLY folk. I know what my orange crateful of albums included~because I still have them and love them.
